{June 12, 2008}   Graduation

I’ve been really blue lately and I’m not sure why. I can’t seem to bounce back and things just seem so overwhelming.  I haven’t really started eating healthy/working out again and I have to start working hard for our final Former Phat Fcuk weigh-in on Aug 7th to win. and I have no clue how I’m ever going to raise $5231 by Dec 31st for Bare Ass 2008!

One of my fav AP teachers (randomly I know quite a few) and the only AP teacher I’ve ever met to kiss a pig  recently gave a speech at her school’s graduation.  Reading it at my desk I got a bleary-eyed.  this part hit me especially:

Now, all my kids know how dearly I love the stories of King Arthur – they know this because I’ve forced them, kicking and screaming, usually, to read so many of them.  I have always especially loved Merlin’s role in Arhtur’s life; teacher, friend and sage.  ‘The best thing for being sad,’ says Merlin in The Once and Future King, ‘is to learn something.  That is the only thing that never fails.  You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honor trampled in the sewers of baser minds.  There is only one thing for it then – to learn.  Learn why the world wags and what wags it.  That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting.  Learning is the thing for you.’

Check out the whole speech on Sassafras Junction - where Sass intersects with Frass.   And for all you AP students out there – did you really write ‘This is Sparta!’ on your exam? And was it all that you dreamed and more?

I never understood how people can get bored. When someone says “I’m bored” it’s usually indicative of their personality. I never get bored. I never could get bored. Unless you’re in a prison cell, there’s way too much shit any person could be doing at any given moment. Learning tops the list for me. I can’t learn enough. That said, I am very, very boring.

Thanks, JellyKean. Couldn’t have done it without you.
